This section is intended to inform as to how we handle IV moderate sedation services in our office.
Dr Dreyer has a moderate IV sedation permit. For most patients with gagging issues, anxiety, or claustrophobia with rubber dam, this form of sedation will be adequate, and Dr Dreyer can provide this level of sedation himself, while doing the root canal. The drug is titrated to the point where the patient is quite sleepy but always conscious.
For those patients suffering severe phobia, or who are younger than age 16, or have a higher than 35 BMI, an anesthesiologist comes into the office select days each month to provide a deeper level of sedation in which the patient is not conscious.
